What is the difference between a hunting ghillie suit and a regular ghillie suit?
A hunting ghillie suit is a little different than a ghillie suit made to decieve humans. When you are playing paintball, airsoft or in the military, you are hiding from other people. Your ghillie suit, in addition to breaking up the human outline, must also match the terrain and foliage or you will be seen. Humans can tell if a color is just not right or if the texture of an area is off. They can also tell if a spot is darker while in fun sunlight or if a spot if lighter than its surroundings while in the shade.
When you are hunting animals, they have much less or almost no reasoning skills. They can see movement and color, but they cannot tell that you ghillie suit is a shade of green too dark. They can’t tell if your ghillie camo is wide strips of burlap but the rest of the area is thin tall grass. As long as you break up your human form, your ghillie suit should work for hunting.
Because of this you can choose other ghillie suits that you would normally not use against other humans. One example is the Jackal Ghillie Suit. This is a great quality and very light ghillie suit, but if you were to lay on the ground in this suit, a person walking by would easily spot you. However, that’s not the case with an animal. The Chameleon Ghillie Suit is also like this. It’s a great light weight suit, but works best against animals.
